Providing Employable Skill Training and Mentoring

Goodwill for Ethiopia

Goodwill for Ethiopia (GE)
A charitable, non-governmental, and not-for-profit organization based in Vienna, Virginia, with its headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

GE aims to narrow the gap of poverty in Ethiopia by providing employable skill training to the most vulnerable youth, specifically 10th grade dropouts. Their exposure to a better discipline in life can help them become productive and self-supportive members of society.

Objectives of GE
• Play a role in reducing unemployment in Ethiopia
• Teach the importance of democracy and good citizenship
• Enhance and formulate gender-responsive skills training
• Produce income for those who have completed the training
• Help prevent HIV/AIDS

Accomplishments and News
On 17 September, 2007, GE had the school's first graduation ceremony. Forty five students were handed carpentry certificates by Berhane Deressa -- then the Mayor of Addis Ababa. All of the students are currently employed in their field. Two of the top students have been permanently hired by the French Embassy in Addis Ababa.

This year, GE is proud to announce that forty five new certificates were handed to the graduating class of 2008 on 11 October.

A big thanks to Celtic Conspiracy, a lively Celtic Dance Band -- they held a benefit concert to raise money for GE in Wotten, England on 25 October.
